May 1 - 3 - The Battle Of Longwoods - Delaware Ontario

May 1 - 3 saw the repeat of the Battle of Longwoods, once again hosted by the Royal Scots Light Infantry at the Longwoods Conservation Area in Delaware Ontario. This event always signals the full start of the re-enacting season here in Ontario! Among the special events this year was the dedication of the Royal Scots Grenadier Company's King's and Regimental Colours. We were honoured to be able to provide members to the Colour Party that lent respect and dignity to this solemn occasion.

Once again we would like to thank the Royal Scots Lights for running such a premier event.

May 7 - 9 - Rise To Rebellion - Georgina Pioneer Village

In 1813 the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada was founded with trained members from the different county militias and regular British officers. They were disbanded at the end of the war in 1815. Their Colours arrived from England in 1822 and now reside in the War Museum in Ottawa.

In 1837 however, the Incorporated Militia was recalled with the plan to help suppress the Rebellions. They never did serve, but that gave the current Incorporated Militia a good reason to assist the Georgina Pioneer Village with their Education Program "Rise To Rebellion". Their Education Day saw more than 400 students from Keswick, Newmarket and Aurora come to the village and support the Crown or the Rebel Cause. William Lyon Mackenzie and his supporters faced off against Sir Francis Bond Head and those loyal to the Queen. As part of the day's activities, students participated in workshops involving military drill, English country Dancing and kit identification and function. Comments by participants and presenters were very positive.
